In Tokyo in 2020, Panama will be represented by Emily Santos and Tyler Christiason.
B.T. Christianson Olympic Games Tokyo 2020
Two Panamanian swimmers, Tyler Christianson and Emily Santos, have been selected to compete for their country at the upcoming Tokyo 2021 Olympics.
Both Santos and Chistrianson will compete in the men’s and women’s 100 breaststroke and 200 individual medley events, respectively.
As a result of her time of 1:11.43 in the 100 breast at the 2021 UANA Tokyo Qualifier in Clermont, Florida, Santos, who swims for the Montverde Academy in Monteverde, Florida, was nominated to the squad.

Santos just ended her freshman year at Monteverde and swam for the squad at the 2021 Florida Senior Championships, collecting silver in both the 50 and 100 yard breaststrokes with a 30.16 and 1:04.60.
Santos also competed in the long course 50 breaststroke, 100 breaststroke, and 200 breaststroke at the 2021 Puerto Rico International Swim in May, where she won in 32.94 and placed second in 1:12.33, respectively.
Back in 2019 Santos race for Panama at the Pan American Games in Lima, Peru, he placed 12th during the 100 breaststroke heats with a 1:12.39. She next competed in the B final, where she ran a 1:14.45 and placed 14th. Santos swam a 100 breast in 1:13.36 to place 40th at the 2019 World Junior Championships in Budapest.
Christianson, who will also be making his Olympic Debut this year holds the National Record in both of his Olympic Events:
The 200 IM and 200 breaststroke. He swam a 2:03.16 in the IM and a 2:15.79 in the breaststroke at the US Open in 2019. He recently swam both of those events at the 2021 CCCAN Swimming Championships in June 2021 when he got a 2:05.63 in the 200 IM and a 2:16.96 in the 200 breast.
Christianson represented Panama internationally at the 2019 Pan American Games in Peru and raced to 6th in the 200 IM (2:03.28), and to 10th in the 400 IM, setting a new national record in that event of 4:25.93.
Collegiately, Christianson just completed his freshman year at the University of Notre Dame. As a result of his performance at the 2021 ACC CHampionships and the 2021 NCAA Championships, Christianson was named Notre Dame’s freshman of the year.
Christianson finished in the top 42 of the 200-meter individual medley, the top 31 of the 400-meter individual medley, and the top 24 in the 200-meter breaststroke at the NCAA Championships (1:46.04).

Conclusion
In the women’s 50-meter freestyle at the 2012 Olympics, Eileen Coparropa represented Panama and finished in 13th position with a time of 25.37 seconds.
She also competed in the 100-meter freestyle that year, finishing in 30th place with a time of 57.09 seconds; Ismael Ortiz finished 45th in the men’s event, clocking in at 51.47 seconds.
